Salamon to speak on crisis of nonprofit sector

Lester M. Salamon, director of Johns Hopkins University’s Institute for Policy Studies, will address “The Crisis of the Nonprofit Sector and the Future of the Welfare State” in a free, public talk 10:15–11:30 a.m. March 29 in the Vandenberg Room, Michigan League.
Salamon, who also directs the Johns Hopkins Comparative Nonprofit Sector Project, has written and edited more than a dozen books, including “The Federal Budget and the Nonprofit Sector” and “Partners in Public Service: Govern ment and the Nonprofit Sector in the Modern Welfare State.”
He is a leading expert on the size, structure, financing and role of the nonprofit sector, both nationally and globally, and is an authority on the tools of government action and social welfare and urban development policy.
Salamon previously served as director of the Center for Governance and Management Research at the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C., and as deputy associate director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. He also has taught at Duke and Va nderbilt universities and Tougaloo College.
While on campus, Salamon also will address students in the seminar of the Interdisciplinary Committee on Organizational Studies.
