Marina Roelofs has been named director of the Plant Extension Department. Her appointment was announced Feb. 17 by Henry Baier, associate vice president for facilities and operations. She succeeds Tom Schlaff, who had been interim director.
Roelofs will plan and direct the administrative and operational activities of the Construction Management, Facilities Planning and Design, and Interior Design units. She also will participate in capital planning for all campuses.
“Marina’s wide-ranging experience in the construction industry spans purchasing and procurement through engineering, construction management and legal/contractual issues,” Baier said. “This complete construction management perspective and experience will benefit the U-M as we strive to build the best facilities and control costs to support education and research.”
Roelofs joined the University in July 1999 as assistant director of Plant Extension, with primary responsibility for the coordination of the life sciences project. Prior to that she was assistant vice president for facilities at the University of Toledo. At Toledo, she was responsible for managing and directing the school’s capital programs, including new construction valued at more than $100 million, as well as facilities maintenance activities.
Roelofs also has worked for General Motors Corp., serving as the Argonaut AEC project manager for various units, including the GM Milford Proving Grounds, Packard Electric Division and corporate offices.
She holds a construction engineering degree from Lawrence Technological University, a J.D. from the Detroit College of Law and an M.S. in civil engineering from Wayne State University.
