Robertson named center director

Richard E. Robertson, professor of materials science and engineering, has been appointed director of the Macromolecular Science and Engineering Center.

Robertson has served on the faculty of the Materials Science and Engineering Department and the Macromolecular Science and Engineering Center for the past 10 years. He received his undergraduate education from Occidental College and his Ph.D. fro m the California Institute of Technology.

He held the positions of physical chemist at the General Electric Co., Corporate Research and Development, and staff scientist at the Ford Motor Co.

His areas of current research are molecular dynamics and the physical aging of polymer glasses, fracture processes in fiber composites and failure analysis, repair of fiber composite structures, and rapid fabrication of fiber composite components.

He is a member of the American Chemical Society and a fellow of the American Physical Society.
