Kids Kare backup child care service now open for registration

As part of the university’s commitment to help faculty and staff meet the challenge of balancing work obligations with family commitments, the U-M Work/Life Resource Center is again offering Kids Kare at Home.

Kids Kare at Home is a backup child-care option for when regular care is unavailable. For example, when a child needs to stay home due to illness, but the parent must be on campus/at work, a Kids Kare caregiver may be available to provide backup care in the home.

To use the Kids Kare at Home program, faculty, staff and students must first register at hr.umich.edu/worklife/kidskare/index.html. To ensure access to the service, beginning Jan. 1, pre-register by Dec. 24.

Registration is free and there is no obligation to use the service.  Many parents sign up “just in case.” An hourly rate (based on the total family income) will be determined upon registration.

Parents who enrolled for the service in 2014 must re-register for next year.

Not sure why the program exist. I have never been able to get service for my kids sick days. They suggest I call 2 days ahead – which requires guessing that a kid would be sick. The program needs to be revamped.
