Administrative appointments approved by the Regents at their September meeting included:
Noreen M. Clark, the Marshall H. Becker Collegiate Professor of Public Health and professor of health behavior and health education, was re-appointed dean of the School of Public Health, July 1, 2000–June 30, 2005.
Robert Jon Feigal, professor of dentistry, was re-appointed interim associate dean for academic affairs in the School of Dentistry, Oct. 1, 1999–Sept. 30, 2000.
Frederick Cooper will be chair of the Department of History, effective Sept. 1, 1999–May 31, 2002. He is the Charles Gibson Professor of History and professor of history and of Afroamerican and African studies.
Christophe Pierre, professor of mechanical engineering and applied mechanics, associate dean for academic programs and initiatives in the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies, Sept. 1, 1999–Aug. 31, 2002.
Sherril A. Smith, associate dean for graduate studies, the Catherine B. Heller Collegiate Professor of Art and professor of art, will be interim dean of the School of Art and Design, July 1, 1999–Dec. 31, 1999.
Jindrich Toman, professor of Slavic languages and literatures, will be chair of the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, July 1, 1999–June 30, 2001.
Chelsea C. White, III, professor of industrial and operations engineering and of electrical engineering and computer science, will be interim chair of the Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering, effective Aug. 16, 1999–June 30, 2000.
Norman Yoffee, professor of Near Eastern studies and of anthropology, acting chair of the Department of Near Eastern Studies, Sept. 1, 1999–Dec. 31, 1999.
John R. Chamberlin, professor of political science and of public policy and interim dean of the School of Public Policy, will be associate dean of the School, Aug. 1, 1999–Aug. 31, 2000.
Timothy L. Colenback, coordinator of academic programs in the School of Social Work, interim assistant dean for student services, effective Nov. 1.
Linda H. Gillum, assistant dean for student programs at the Medical School, will be assistant provost for academic affairs, effective Sept. 1.
Wendy Scott Keeney, interim LS&A assistant dean for development and external relations, will become the College’s assistant dean for development and external relations, effective Sept. 1.
$42 million in gifts
The Regents last week accepted $42,877,413 in gifts received during June–August. The total included $25,138,582 from individuals, $7,228,681 from corporations, $8,016,434 from foundations, and $2,493,716 from associations and others.
