Administrative appointments
Administrative appointments approved included:
Richard G. Cornell, professor of biostatistics, will continue to serve as interim dean of the School of Public Health until Aug. 31, 1995, or until a permanent dean is appointed.
Eugene Pijanowski, professor of art, will continue to serve as associate dean of the School of Art for another year, beginning July 1.
Brian A. Burt, professor of dental public health, was reappointed chair of the Department of Community Health Programs for another year, effective July 1.
Khalil H. Mancy, professor of environmental chemistry and of international health, was reappointed chair of the Department of Environmental and Industrial Health for another year, effective July 1.
Hunein F. Maassab, professor of epidemiology, will continue to serve as chair of the Department of Epidemiology for another year, effective July 1.
Arnold S. Monto, professor of population planning and international health and of epidemiology, was reappointed chair of the Department of Population Planning and International Health for another year, effective Oct. 1.
John R.C. Wheeler, professor of health services management and policy, will continue to serve as chair of the Department of Health Services Management and Policy for another year, effective July 1.
Nola J. Pender, professor of nursing, will serve as associate dean for academic affairs and research in the School of Nursing for a three-year term, beginning June 1.
New faculty appointments
Brian Carter will become professor of architecture, effective July 1.
David A. Hirshleifer, from the University of California, Los Angeles, will be professor of finance, effective Sept. 1.
Jose Rabasa, from the University of Maryland, will be associate professor of Spanish and Latin American literature, effective Sept. 1.
Kenneth J. Pienta, from Wayne State University, will be associate professor of internal medicine and of surgery, effective July 1.
Anthony Elliott, from the University of Houston, will be professor of music (cello), effective Sept. 1.
Betty Jean Jones, from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, will be professor of theatre, effective Sept. 1.
Carol T. Mowbray, from Wayne State University, will be associate professor of social work, effective Sept. 1.
Gifts accepted
The Regents formally accepted $9,255,135 in gifts received during April. The total includes $3,039,076 from individuals, $1,144,588 from corporations, $2,761,785 from foundations, and $2,309,686 from associations and others.
