Internal renovation slated for EECS
With many of the faculty and staff from the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Building scheduled to move into the soon-to-be-open Computer Science and Engineering Building, the regents approved an internal renovation for the 1985 building. A new central student commons will be created and improvements will be made to public areas, instructional spaces and the building infrastructure during the project. The College of Engineering will fund the estimated $6.3 million project costs through gifts and other resources. Neumann Smith Associates will design the project, which is anticipated to be completed in spring 2007.
Hospital chiller to be replaced
One of the chillers that provides cooled air for the University Hospital will be replaced next year. This is the third phase of a multi-phase replacement plan that began in early 2001. The engineering firm of Wolf Wineman Associates will design the project, which is expected to cost $3.1 million with funding provided by the Hospitals and Health Centers.

Retirements
Martha S. Hill, research professor in the Survey Research Center, Institute for Social Research, effective Oct. 31. She joined U-M in 1977. Her research has focused on family economics, family structure issues, poverty and inequality, and intergenerational influences and assistance. From 2002-2005 Hill served as the director of the Detroit Area Study.
P. Landis Keyes, professor of molecular and integrative physiology and research professor in the Reproductive Sciences Program, effective Aug. 31. Keyes joined the University in 1972. His research and scholarly activities have focused on reproductive endocrinology, specifically ovarian function. He taught courses in reproductive science, endocrinology and gastrointestinal physiology.
