Champions Center design approved

A new events center will be tucked between the tunnel entrances to Crisler Arena and Michigan Stadium following schematic design approval by the regents. They also authorized issuing the project for bids and awarding construction contracts, provided the bids are within the approved budget of $4.5 million.
The center, which will be named the Junge Family Champions Center, will be below ground with a front entrance facing the Crisler Arena parking lot. It will be used for athletic recruiting events and will support other University-related activities, such as convocations, graduations and new student orientations. Construction is expected to be completed next fall.
Additional concrete to be replaced in Michigan Stadium
Concrete in 17 sections of Michigan Stadium will be replaced next summer as part of routine maintenance to preserve the structural integrity of the stadium. Concrete in sections 1 through 9 and 37 through 44 will be replaced at a cost of $2.75 million, which will be funded by the Athletic Department. Last year, concrete was replaced in six sections of the stadium, which was constructed in 1924.

Retirement
Martin Einhorn, professor of physics in LSA, effective Aug. 31, 2004. Einhorn joined the University in 1976. His research spanned a broad range of topics in relativistic quantum field theory and focused on relating theory to existing or potential experimental results. His work included studies of cosmology and phase transitions in the early universe. He was a member of the original national panel that established the Institute for Theoretical Physics.
