Regents praise Omenn’s work

At the July board meeting, Regent Katherine White read a statement honoring Dr. Gilbert Omenn, executive vice president for medical affairs, who is stepping down from his position at the end of the month. Omenn was praised by regents for ‘maintaining the financial well-being of the U-M Health System (UMHS) during a difficult period,’ for his efforts to enhance research initiatives and for breaking ground on a new biomedical science research building. Omenn also was credited with forging partnerships ‘to bring world-class health care to the people of Michigan.’

Omenn thanked regents for making him the first executive vice president for medical affairs, a position he held for five years. He will remain at U-M as a faculty member and has said he is looking forward to delving more deeply into life sciences development, and science and health policy issues.
