Approval of the final design and budget for the proposed Parking Structure Office Building (PSOB) on the Medical Campus was given by the Regents at their December meeting.
To be built atop the proposed North Entrance Parking Structure (NEPS), the PSOB will have 170,000 gross square feet and is estimated to cost $43,270,000, according to Vice President Farris W. Womack.
The PSOB will have four floors of faculty and administrative offices and a fifth floor principally for the building’s mechanical and electrical systems but also for some faculty offices and a fitness center.
When the Regents considered the preliminary concept of the building last May, they were presented with “both a small scheme and a large scheme in the form of an area model,” Womack noted. “Our request now is for the larger of the two schemes which, from a site development standpoint, achieves maximum utilization.”
This decision, he said, affects the proposed NEPS, a 1,000-car parking structure as originally approved, which will be adjacent to the proposed Cancer and Geriatrics Centers Building (C&GC).
“A portion of the previously approved NEPS will be required to be enlarged. This change will add approximately 80 parking spaces and increase the total cost of the structure accordingly, from $18,800,000 to $20,640,000,” he explained.
“To coordinate the timing of the three proposed projects—NEPS, C&GC and PSOB—the schedule of all three projects will need to be adjusted to receive bids in May 1993.” The C&GC project budget also is revised, from $73,468,000 to $74,033,000.
