Putnam to receive Athena Award

Soprano Ashley Putnam will receive the 1995 Athena Award from the Alumni Association’s Alumni Council this week.

The Athena Award is presented to an alumna “who has achieved excellence in her field and displayed altruistic and humanitarian attributes through community service.” The recipient of the annual award returns to campus for several days of activities with students, faculty, staff and fellow alumni.

Following graduation, Putnam won first prize at the 1976 Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions. Since then, she has sung starring roles in leading opera houses around the world.

Putnam will teach a master class for students at the School of Music 2:30-4:30 p.m. Fri. (Nov. 17). The presentation is open to the public.
