Curiosity and an entrepreneurial spirit motivate Ross senior
Cameron Allen has a head for business. His first venture was a book subscription service he created as a freshman in high school. More recently, as a senior at U-M, Allen was selected as a Zell Entrepreneur to develop Novl’d, an app he and a friend conceived to provide social connections for media lovers.
LSA/SEAS senior wants to make environmental science accessible
When Jake Downey arrived in Ann Arbor, he quickly found ways to get involved in research on campus. He joined the Michigan Research and Discovery Scholars learning community, which connected him to a paleontology research lab. “I loved dinosaurs as a kid, so this opportunity spoke to that part of me,” he said.
USMI student hopes to use data analysis to pursue social justice
Heading into her freshman year at U-M, Julia Kassab planned to pursue political science. Then she decided to enroll in U-M’s CS KickStart, a weeklong program designed to introduce young women to computer science. “That was my first exposure to computer science or coding, and it was so cool,” Kassab said.
Researching what drives human behavior excites LSA senior
Premma Mehta describes herself as a “people person.” She became a peer adviser in LSA’s psychology department because it enabled her to interact with incoming freshmen, a role she called “the best job.” Studying human behavior also drove her to double major in economics and psychology.
Education senior wants to help students with learning challenges
After a painful divorce, Robyn Raimey began a period of self-reflection, resulting in what she said was a “calling” to become a teacher. She closed her hairstyling business, quit her office job and went back to Oakland to complete her basic general studies courses so she could apply to bachelor’s programs in education.
