Price kicks off Sigma Xi Ethics and Science Lecture Series

The U-M chapter of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, launches its 1992–93 Ethics and Science Lecture Series this week.

Alan R. Price, chief of the investigations branch and senior scientist and assistant director of the Office of Research Integrity in the U.S. Public Health Service, will speak on the “Impact of the Federal Government on Scientific Integrity and Research Misconduct: Hopes and Fears” at 4 p.m. Friday (Oct. 23) in Room 1400, Chemistry Building.

Price is a former assistant vice president for research at the U-M and former associate professor of biological chemistry in the Medical School.

Nov. 13, Carl F. Berger, professor of education and director of instructional technology for the Information Technology Division’s Instructional Technology Systems, “Ethics and Computer Use in Research and Education. Is Education a Protected Island?” 4 p.m., Room 1400, Chemistry Building.

Jan. 19, President James J. Duderstadt, also chair of the National Science Board, “Scientific Integrity and the University.” 7:30 p.m., Rackham Amphitheater.

Feb. 19, Garry D. Brewer, dean of the School of Natural Resources and the Environment, “Environment, Economy and Ethics,” 4 p.m., Rackham Amphitheater.

April 14, Estelle A. Fishbein, vice president and general counsel at The Johns Hopkins University, “Priorities in Policing Integrity,” 4 p.m., Rackham Amphitheater.

The series is co-sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research.
