Computers and fluorescent light fixtures were humming along last Wednesday afternoon. A minute later all was quiet.
About half of the University’s buildings were affected by a 20-minute power outage, which began at 3:20 p.m.
Director of Utilities Kenneth H. Beaudry attributed the temporary loss of power to “something being inadvertently tripped” during routine maintenance at the Central Power Plant.
He said buildings scattered throughout campus were affected, the majority being on the west and south sides of campus.
Except for the inconvenience of having no electricity, the power outage created no major problems, reports University Police Lt. James R. Smiley.
