Polio pioneers needed

Were you or someone you know one of the children who participated field trials conducted by Dr. Thomas Francis Jr. of the Salk polio vaccine in 1954?

The University will celebrate the 50th anniversary of this landmark achievement April 12 in Rackham Auditorium.

A special commemorative Web site will offer historical information and background.

We need your help finding some of the brave children who stepped forward to get a shot, not knowing if it would be the real vaccine or a fake “placebo,” and not knowing if it would be safe and effective.

Send an e-mail to [email protected] or call (734) 764-7260.
