The U-M and Ann Arbor police are seeking the perpetrator of an armed robbery that took place early the morning of Sept. 7 at the Michigan League.
The assailant, wearing a dark ski mask and carrying a hand gun, confronted a State Security guard employed by the University at about 1 a.m. in the League. The robber took the guard’s radio and forced him down the hall and into an office, where a clerk was working. The gunman then took the clerk’s purse, which contained about $68 in cash.
The guard was able to set off an alarm on the radio before it was taken from him, and the clerk also set off a holdup alarm. The gunman forced the guard and clerk into a vault and left by the north doors as U-M officers were responding. Ann Arbor police responded with a tracking dog, but were unable to pick up the trail.
The gunman is described as a Black male in his late 30s. Police believe he was hiding in the building prior to closing time.
U-M police also are investigating a burglary that occurred about 5:30 a.m. Sept. 8 in Mosher-Jordan residence hall.
A female student reported that an unknown male entered her residence hall room early that morning. He fled after a struggle with the student, taking about $80 in cash from her room. No sexual assault occurred and police do not believe the burglary is connected with the robbery that took place in the Michigan League.
The burglar is described as of “student age,” with a thin build, wearing a red shirt and jeans.
DPS has increased security patrols in Mosher-Jordan and other residence halls. In addition, the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC) has scheduled a presentation for students living in Mosher-Jordan.
SAPAC counselors will offer advice about preventing sexual assault and protecting personal safety.
