Visitor arrested for unarmed robbery
A student observed his just-stolen laptop in another subject’s backpack at the Central Campus Recreation Building, he told university police Jan. 26. When the student confronted the visitor, the visitor punched the student and left the building. Police arrested the subject at an Ypsilanti residence and took him to jail. He was arraigned later in the week on a charge of unarmed robbery and he was released from jail on a personal recognizance bond of $5,000.
Chemistry office burglarized
Two laptop computers reportedly were stolen from an office in the Chemistry Building during the first weekend of January. A window in the office door was found broken as well. There are no suspects at this time.
Two sexual assaults reported, no charges sought
In January, two subjects told Division of Public Safety and Security officers that they had been sexually assaulted. One incident reportedly occurred Jan. 25 in an East Quadrangle room between two students who knew each other. In the other incident, a staff member at the University Hospital reported that a patient had inappropriately touched her on Jan. 9. Neither complainant wished to pursue arrest charges.
Charges denied for residence hall burglary
The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office declined to authorize arrest charges in connection with a burglary that was reported to have occurred in East Quadrangle residence hall Jan. 24. A resident reported that another student entered her room without her permission and began yelling at her in a dispute over an incident the previous day.
Road rage incident leads to crime alert
A food delivery driver reported Jan. 21 that another driver had brandished a gun during a dispute as they were stopped at the intersection of Observatory Street and East Medical Center Drive around 7 p.m. DPSS issued a crime alert for the incident, which described the suspect as a black male, 20-30 years of age, thin-to-medium build with a 6-inch beard, wearing a dark-colored beanie and driving a white, four-door sedan. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact DPSS at 734-763-1131.
