Suspect found at gas station

An 18-year-old Ann Arbor man matching the description of a suspect in a July 4 assault near the School of Education Building (SEB) was arrested after an off-duty Department of Public Safety (DPS) officer spotted him two hours later in an Ann Arbor gas station.

The man is suspected in an attempt to steal a purse from a student walking near SEB about 1:30 a.m. July 4. When the student refused to give up her purse, the suspect fled. On July 17, the suspect pleaded guilty to felonious assault and attempted larceny from a person. He is scheduled for sentencing Sept. 3.

Bus hit by car

A U-M student from Okemos drove his car into a

U-M commuter bus June 26 as the bus turned from Fuller onto Bonisteel Road. The driver of the car was taken to the U-M Hospital for treatment. No one on the bus was injured.

Traffic stop yields more

An 18-year-old Ann Arbor man was arrested June 22 after he was pulled over for a routine traffic stop and DPS officers discovered a bag containing a substance suspected to be marijuana, weighing and packaging equipment, and cash in the vehicle. The 1991 Cougar was held for possible forfeiture, and the man was processed and released pending authorization from the county prosecutor.

Two students await sentencing

Two 19-year-old students are scheduled to be sentenced July 31 in 22nd Circuit Court after they pleaded guilty to breaking and entering at their preliminary exams June 19. They are accused of stealing less than $50 in merchandise from the South Quadrangle snack bar Feb. 21.

Car stolen, recovered same day

A visitor to the Ypsilanti Health Center at 200 Arnet Street reported June 18 that her 1990 Pontiac Grand Am had been stolen. It was recovered hours later in the possession of her nephew.

Attempted robbery suspect caught

A 32-year-old Ypsilanti man was arraigned June 15 for attempted unarmed robbery and resisting and obstructing a police officer after a U-M student reported being grabbed by a man on the Diag who demanded his money. The student was not injured. The suspect, who also is a parole absconder, was remanded on a $50,000 bond.

Man reports assault

A 31-year-old Ann Arbor man reported June 12 that he was hit in the head with a pipe by two men at the corner of South and East University streets. The victim was treated and released at the U-M Hospital Emergency Department. Follow-up interviews have been conducted by DPS officers.

Pharmacy burglarized

The pharmacy at the East Ann Arbor Health Center was burglarized June 10. Entry was gained through a broken exterior window, and several medications reportedly were stolen.
