Three arrested for property crimes
Three men were arrested mid-February on charges associated with high-profile campus crimes. Honar Zakholi, 19, was arrested Feb. 15 for allegedly entering a West Quad resident’s room without permission Feb. 6. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) cancelled its crime alert. Zakholi waived his preliminary exam March 13 and is scheduled to appear April 22 for his pre-trial hearing.
Ronald Tyree Richardson, 26, of Ann Arbor was arrested Feb. 17 by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department for several warrants, including a charge of larceny from a building involving the theft of a liquid crystal display (LCD) projector from the School of Public Health.
Jermaine Mills was arrested Feb. 16 by DPS officers following a brief chase through the Shapiro Library after a witness reported seeing Mills steal a wallet. The county prosecutor’s office authorized a two-count warrant for his arrest—larceny from a person and resisting and obstructing a police officer.
Additional crime alerts issued
DPS issued a crime alert March 8 for a home invasion in West Quadrangle. A resident reported that she awoke about 8:15 a.m. to find an unknown man in her room. The subject fled with her laptop computer. The subject was described as a Black male with medium complexion, 18–22 years old, 5 feet 6 inches–5 feet 10 inches, thin to medium build, short hair, wearing a blue jacket with yellow stripes on the sleeves, black gloves and blue jeans.
The crime alert followed three other recent alerts: March 4 for a Peeping Tom in South Quad, Feb. 24 for a home invasion in East Quad, and Feb. 14 for a home invasion and peeping tom in Stockwell Hall. The South Quad Peeping Tom suspect was described as a Black male with no facial hair or glasses.
The East Quad suspect is reported to have entered an unlocked room while the occupant was sleeping. He fled with the resident’s keys and other personal property. He is described as a white male with medium complexion, 5 feet 9 inches, 135 pounds, brown hair in a ponytail and a clean shaven face.
In the Stockwell incident, the suspect is reported to have entered an unlocked resident’s room and stolen her keys, which then were used to enter the women’s restroom and observe a person taking a shower. The suspect was described as a Black male with medium complexion, 5 feet 10 inches–6 feet 2 inches tall, 18–25 years old, 135 pounds with a long, thin, oval-shaped face. He reportedly was wearing a waist-length, blue nylon U-M jacket, black sweat pants, white tennis shoes, and a black and red baseball cap.
Residents are reminded to keep their doors locked. Anyone with information about this or other campus crimes should call DPS, (734) 763-1131.
Rewards for information on Peeping Toms
DPS announced March 7 a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects involved in the Peeping Tom incidents in the residence halls. DPS is investigating 13 reports on Peeping Tom incidents in women’s restrooms since early October.
Two other rewards still are available—$2,000 for information leading to the arrest of suspects involved in the Feb. 2 home invasion at East Quadrangle, and $1,000 for information regarding thefts of LCD projectors
Anyone with information. Anyone with information should contact Sgt. Tim Shannon or Sgt. Melissa Overton, (734) 763-1131, or U-M’s Anonymous Tip-line, (800) 863-1355.
Three students arrested in utility tunnels
Three students were arrested Feb. 12 for unlawful entry after they were found in the underground utility tunnels. Many pipes are located in the tunnels to transport steam, hot and domestic water, electricity, and telecommunications lines for Central and Medical Campus. The tunnels are dangerous for non-authorized people who aren’t trained to handle confined spaces, high temperatures and high voltage situations.
South Quad snack bar burglarized
Two students were arrested Feb. 21 for breaking and entering in the South Quad basement snack bar. Items reported stolen were later recovered. The students also were cited for being minors in possession of alcohol and violations of a controlled substance.
They were released pending authorization from the prosecutor’s office.
