Another crime alert issued
Another home invasion crime alert was issued last week to the University community by the Department of Public Safety (DPS). This warning followed a home invasion alert from the Law Quadrangle and a peeping Tom alert in East Quadrangle that were distributed Dec. 4. The most recent incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Dec. 11 when an Alice Lloyd resident woke to find someone in his room, holding his laptop. The resident chased the suspect until the suspect dropped the laptop.
The suspect was described as a man of early college age,6-feet-2-inches tall, 185–200 pounds, with a medium-to-dark complexion, goatee, mustache and very short hair, wearing a gold necklace, black wave cap, black baggy jeans and black puffy coat. A second suspect who was confronted in another Alice Lloyd resident’s room at approximately the same time was described as a man between 5-feet-8-inches and 5-feet-9-inches tall, 140–155 pounds, with short, spiked, black hair.

Thefts of unsecured items continue
Many unattended belongings were stolen in November from University libraries, recreational buildings, classrooms, offices and residence hall rooms, DPS reports.
Twenty-nine people filed DPS reports during November for stolen wallets or purses, nine for backpacks or book bags, seven for computers and three for cell phones. Many of the victims reported they had left their belongings unattended for a short time. Additionally, ten reports were filed for stolen parking permits.
Eight LCD projectors, valued at $4,000–$12,000, were stolen from various classroom buildings. An award of a minimum of $500 still is available for anyone with information leading to the recovery of the projectors and arrest of the thieves involved with these thefts. Subject arrested with stolen property
A 17-year-old Ypsilanti youth was arrested Nov. 29 after he was found in possession of property that allegedly had been stolen in West Quad. The Washtenaw County Prosecutor authorized a warrant for his arrest on two counts—receiving and concealing stolen property and larceny. He also was wanted on probation violation.
Event sparks arrests
A rock concert at Hill Auditorium Nov. 4 attracted a large crowd. DPS officers arrested 19 people for alcohol or drug-related incidents. No one arrested was affiliated with the University.
Stolen car recovered
DPS officers recovered a stolen 1991 Mercedes from lot M26 Nov. 19. It had been reported stolen from within the city of Ann Arbor.
Two students assaulted near Michigan Union
A 41-year-old Ann Arbor man was arrested Nov. 26 after he allegedly assaulted two students outside the Michigan Union. The Washtenaw County Prosecutor authorized a warrant for his arrest on four counts—two counts of ethnic intimidation and two counts of assault or assault and battery. The students reported that the man approached them, asked for a cigarette, and then began a barrage of verbal and physical assaults. Neither student required medical treatment. This was the first report filed with DPS since Sept. 11 of a physical assault involving ethnic intimidation.
