Officers looking for male suspect
Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers are still looking for a man who reportedly exposed himself to a woman and her companion Feb. 26 on the south side of the Chemistry Building near the Diag. The woman reported that he was a white male, about 25 years of age with a black beard, wearing a black leather coat, black pants and a winter hat.
Police say that he approached the two women and told them that as part of a fraternity initiation, he needed them to sign a paper. After some conversation, he opened his coat and unzipped his pants. He was not wearing a shirt.

Man arrested after 4-month investigation
DPS officers arrested a 38-year-old man who is not affiliated with the University and have charged him with one count of indecent exposure in connection with an Oct. 19, 1999, report of indecent exposure in Nichols Arboretum. DPS Deputy Director James Smiley says that officers conducted a series of interviews and showed photographs of the suspect and others to witnesses in order to identify the man, who they say may be involved in other similar incidents. The man is currently out on bond and faces a March 15 preliminary examination. Indecent exposure, a misdemeanor, is punishable by up to one year in prison and a $500 fine.
Man survives clash with train
DPS officers were called to investigate a train accident Feb. 16 at the north end of parking lot M29, off Nichols Drive. A 35-year-old man who had been sitting on the railroad tracks was struck by a train as he got up and began to move off the tracks, officers reported. The man, who is not affiliated with the University, was taken to the University Hospital Emergency Room for treatment.
No suspects in purse snatching
On Feb. 4, a woman reported to DPS officers that her purse had been stolen. She was walking along the east side of Randall Laboratory, she said, when her purse was grabbed from behind. She told police she did not see anyone.
Flyer burned in Grad Library
DPS officers responded to a report of arson on Feb. 4. Upon arrival, they learned that the fire had occurred in a carrel on the 4th floor of the Graduate Library, where a flyer had been burned.
Items taken from car
On March 7, DPS officers investigated a report that a car had been broken into and several items were reported missing by the owner. A University Hospitals employee returned to his car in the M26 surface parking lot on East Medical Center Drive and found the back window of his 1992 Chrysler LeBaron convertible broken. He told officers that a leather jacket and radar detector that had been in the car were missing.
Police have identified no suspects in the case and are continuing to investigate.
Female jogger reports assault
A woman who was jogging in Nichols Arboretum the evening of Feb. 24 later told police that she had been assaulted by a young male.
She reported that while she was jogging on the main path in the Arb, she noted a movement out of the corner of her eye and then was pushed from behind and fell. She was wearing headphones and listening to music while she ran, so she did not hear either the approach or what the young man said as he stood over her, she reported. When she saw the youth standing over her, she kicked him in the chest and he fell. She ran to a nearby friend’s house, but did not report the incident until Feb. 26, DPS officers note.
