Woman is victim of strong-arm robbery
A woman was pushed from behind and fell to the ground on Feb. 4 at approximately 9:45 a.m. The unknown assailant then took her purse and fled. The incident occurred near Randall Laboratory, and Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers are still looking for the suspect. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call DPS, 763-1131.
Jewelry embezzled from sale at Hospitals
A female employee of Gold Coast Productions was arrested Feb. 4 and charged with embezzlement in excess of $2,000, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The woman was selling jewelry for the company at a location in University Hospital. She is being held at the Washtenaw County Jail pending a preliminary examination Feb. 16.
Domestic assault is under investigation
DPS officers are still investigating an assault reported by a male staff member at North Campus Family Housing. The man said that he had been cut with a knife by his wife Jan. 31 during a domestic dispute. Officers arrested the woman and have charged her with assault with a dangerous weapon, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison. The woman, who is not affiliated with the University, was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.
Stage staff assaulted with pepper spray
DPS officers were called to Hill Auditorium at about 7 p.m. Jan. 29 when a disruptive person was reported at the Ann Arbor Folk Festival. Officers reported that the incident escalated when the man climbed up on stage. Members of the stage crew tried to remove him and he allegedly attempted to spray them with pepper spray. DPS officers arrested the man, who is not affiliated with the University, and charged him with one count of assault with a chemical spray device and one count of disorderly conduct. He was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail pending a preliminary hearing.
Police search for man who kicked dog
DPS officers are still looking for a man who approached a female jogger in the Arboretum Jan. 26 at about 3:40 p.m. The man approached the woman and allegedly kicked her dog. The woman says she saw a knife and that the man held it over his head. The dog was examined by a veterinarian and determined not to be injured.
The man is reported to be a white male, about 50 years of age, six feet tall and weighing 180 pounds, with gray hair, mustache and beard. He was last seen wearing a three-quarter-length Army-type field jacket.
Former student employee faces charges
DPS officers arrested a woman who was a student and employee of the University in December and January when she was accused of taking a University vehicle and of fraudulently using a financial transaction device. Officers said that she took a University car out to be fueled and did not return with it for several days. She also allegedly took a cellular phone that belonged to another student and made 48 calls, totaling $600, without permission of the owner. She also is accused of using another student’s calling card and charging approximately $800 on it. DPS officers acted on information they received on the woman’s whereabouts and were assisted by Michigan State Police in apprehending her Jan. 1. She is charged with unlawful use of a vehicle, a felony punishable by up to two years in prison, and with fraudulent use of a financial transaction device, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison.
