Amnesia sufferer is really con artist
Early in September, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) asked for help from the University community in identifying a white male, 6 feet, 4 inches tall weighing 195 pounds who had presented himself at University Hospital with no identification and sa id he could not remember who he was. Within a week, however, the man called his girlfriend from a temporary residence in Ann Arbor. DPS officers talked with the woman in Florida and were able to establish that the man was wanted in Hernando County, Flor ida, for exploitation of the elderly, a felony. He was extradited to Florida.
Four plead guilty in theft of refrigerators
Four students pled guilty in Washtenaw County Circuit Court Sept. 29 to charges of larceny from a building. The four were seen removing small refrigerators from the loading dock at Mary Markley Residence Hall. The students are on probation.
Student charged with arson, assault
A male student was arrested Sept. 10 and charged with arson, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. He pled not guilty in a preliminary examination Sept. 17 and was released on bond. Charges of arson stemmed from an Aug. 6 incident in Mary Markley Residence Hall.
On Sept 25, he was again arrested on charges of felonious assault, an offense punishable by up to four years in prison. Three people reported being hit by pellets from a pellet gun when he allegedly shot at them from a window in East Quadrangle Reside nce Hall. He was arraigned in 15th District Court and pled not guilty. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. today (Oct. 15).
Police still looking for bank robber
University police are still looking for a white male approximately 30 years old who took an undisclosed amount of money from a teller at Comerica Bank, 3001 S. State St. (Wolverine Tower) on Sept. 30. Capt. James R. Smiley says the robber demanded mon ey from the teller, then fled on foot. He is approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, has a mustache and goatee and was last seen wearing a blue baseball cap with the letters “OC” on it. Photos from the bank’s security camera are available and have been pos ted at some campus locations. Woman says friend “maced” her
A woman has told DPS officers that she was robbed and sprayed with mace by her friend after they attended a concert. Neither woman is affiliated with the University. A felony warrant was issued for the assailant and she was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and holding weapons/dangerous devices. A preliminary examination has been scheduled for Oct. 22 and the assailant is currently out on bond. If she is found guilty, she could spend up to 10 years in prison.
