DPS is looking for five suspects
Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials are seeking help in finding five suspects in a strong-arm robbery that took place at approximately 11:30 p.m. March 12 in the southeast stairwell, roof level, of the Church Street parking structure.
Five unknown males approached the victim as he exited the stairwell, demanding that he empty his pockets. One of the suspects picked up the victim’s wallet and keys from the ground, and all five walked away. The keys were thrown over the side of the structure.

Tips for nighttime safety
Look assertive and be aware of your surroundings.
Be aware that your risk increases in secluded and isolated areas.
Walk with a trusted friend or coworker when possible.
Trust your intuition. If a particular situation makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, choose an alternative.
Lock your car doors when it is parked and while driving.
Have your keys in hand before you reach your car.
If you feel threatened on campus, look for a blue light emergency phone or call 911 from any phone (no coins needed).
Detectives track down thief
A former employee of the Subway sandwich shop in the Michigan Union was arrested March 6 and charged with breaking and entering, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The man, who is not affiliated with the University, took money from the store in mid-February. U-M detectives were assisted by Michigan State Police and Ann Arbor Police officers in locating and arresting the suspect. He was arraigned March 7 in 15th District Court, bond was set at $50,000 and a preliminary hearing is slated for March 19.
Two extradited from Florida
to face theft charge
Two people have been extradited from Seminole County, Fla., to face charges of larceny from a building in December. Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers worked with Ypsilanti police and authorities from Florida to track and arrest the two, one male and one female, neither connected with the U-M. The computer theft from Central Campus Recreation Building (CCRB) was reported Dec. 16. Information received Jan. 7 led to the pair’s arrest on Feb. 28, when they were detained in Florida, and returned to Michigan by the U.S. Marshall. A preliminary examination was held March 13.
Pair in custody for theft from auto
Two men who are not affiliated with the University remain in custody after failing to post the 10 percent bond required on bail set at $50,000. They are in Washtenaw County Jail facing charges of receiving and concealing stolen property in connection with a number of thefts from automobiles on North Campus. U-M police officers found a stereo in the suspect’s trunk that was identified by a staff member whose car had been broken into that night. Other items recovered, including radar detectors and stereo players, also were linked to thefts from automobiles in the same area.
If found guilty, the two men face a sentence of up to five years in prison.
