Student beaten on walk home

A 21-year-old student told police June 21 that four teenagers had beaten him as he walked near Regents’ Plaza. The student said he first encountered the group shortly after 2 a.m. in front of the Michigan Union. The teens began taunting him so he yelled at them to stop. One of the teens, he said, ran up and punched him in the nose before fleeing toward the plaza. The student said he followed them to the plaza where they repeatedly assaulted him. He was taken to the University Hospital Emergency Department for treatment of injuries to his face and neck. He was unable to give police a description of the suspects.

Teen threatens teen with knife

A teenager reported to DPS that another youth had threatened him and his friends with a knife at the Top of the Park event June 15 near Hill Auditorium. No one was injured in the verbal exchange. Police talked with the suspect, who was a 13-year-old from Ann Arbor, and secured the pocket knife. The boy was turned over to his parents. The investigation into the attempted felonious assault and Regents’ Ordinance violation is continuing.

Man arrested for burglary of empty room

A 53-year-old man is awaiting trial after he was arrested June 12 in connection with a home invasion of an empty Baits House residence room. A staff person told police he had been awakened by loud noises and observed a man walking away from the building carrying a window screen. While police were investigating the incident, they observed a vehicle that matched a witness description enter and leave a nearby parking lot. After stopping the vehicle, police arrested the driver, who also matched a witness description of the man at the residence hall. The suspect, who lists a Grand Blanc address, was arraigned June 15 on charges of breaking and entering — illegal entry and operating without a license. He was released on personal bond.

Construction materials taken from stadium

Some construction paperwork was found underneath a U-M vehicle parked near Michigan Stadium June 14 after three men were found leaving the area around 5:30 a.m. A university police officer made contact with the men as they walked into a restricted area near the DPS main office. The three men, one of whom is a U-M student, said they had been walking home from a bar, but made a stop at the football stadium. Through initial investigation, it was determined the men may have been connected with the removal of the materials found under the truck. One of the suspects, a 21-year-old from Illinois, was arrested for illegal entry and larceny, processed and released pending further investigation.

Burned paper found at School of Music

Staff at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance told police they had found burned paper on a hallway bulletin board around 3:15 p.m. June 29. People working in the area had smelled an odd odor, which they traced to the burned paper. No fire was observed by any of the staff and no additional damage was found.
