Visitor arraigned on domestic assault charge

A 35-year-old Wayne man was arraigned Dec. 2 on a domestic assault charge after allegedly hitting his girlfriend as they departed University Hospital. Gary Foster is scheduled for a court hearing Jan. 14. The domestic assault reportedly occurred after the woman was released from the emergency room following treatment for an unrelated condition. As they drove away, Foster was observed punching her multiple times in the face. He then left the car and she returned to the hospital to report the assault and seek treatment. Foster was arrested a short time later walking along East Medical Center Drive.

Suspect arrested in two larcenies

An 18-year-old Ann Arbor man awaits two pre-trial hearings Jan. 13 in connection with two campus larcenies and an armed robbery off campus. Jakives Gulley has been charged with larceny in a building and receiving and concealing stolen property in connection with a Nov. 18 laptop theft from the Dance Building and a Nov. 19 backpack theft from the Duderstadt Center. He also has been charged with armed robbery in an Aug. 11 home invasion of an apartment on South State Street. In December DPS canceled the August crime alert (number 13) related to this incident.

Patient assaults hospital staff member

A University Hospital staff person was bitten on the arm and struck by a telephone by an agitated patient Dec. 23. The staff person was not seriously injured in the exchange and the patient was restrained. The investigation by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is pending.

Patient pulls knife, cuts self

During a discharge consultation at University Hospital, an outpatient reportedly pulled out a pocket knife, cut himself on the arm and brandished the knife near his Community Mental Health social worker. The subject was taken to Psychiatric Emergency Services. Results of the investigation will be submitted to the prosecutor.

Student reports assault from two years ago

A 20-year-old student reported to DPS that she had been sexually assaulted by a fellow student two years ago in a Baits Hall room. She made the report to DPS on Dec. 18. The suspect was someone she knew and the case is under investigation.

Property taken from unattended room

A Mary Markley Hall resident told DPS Dec. 13 that his iPod had been taken from his room the previous day after this roommate left their door open and the room unattended. There are no suspects in the burglary case.

Two vehicles stolen from North Campus

Two students reported to University police in December that their cars had been taken from North Campus parking lots. One student reported that he had parked his Honda Civic in Lot NC43 near the Art and Architecture Building about 10 p.m. Dec. 14. It was no longer there when he went to retrieve it the next afternoon. Another student reported that his 1999 Dodge Stratus was missing from lot NW10 off Hubbard Dec. 17. He last had seen the car three days earlier. DPS has no suspects in either case.
