Police seek visitor for questioning

Officers with the Department of Public Safety (DPS) want to talk with a campus visitor about thefts from two Mary Markley Hall rooms in November. The man, described as a black male, approximately 18 years old, 6 feet tall and about 200 pounds, who was wearing a white-hooded sweatshirt and jeans, had been allowed to stay with acquaintances in the hall. Upon his departure Nov. 13, the residents discovered some of their property was missing. Additionally, roommates in a nearby residence reported to police that a laptop computer and a television were missing from their room when they returned Nov. 11. There were no signs of forced entry to their room.

Anyone with information about these incidents or the campus visitor is asked to contact DPS at 763-3434 and reference case 07-4189.

Property taken from residence hall room

Two roommates in Bursley Hall reported to DPS officers Nov. 17 that almost $500 in cash, an iPod and other personal property had been taken from their room during the night. One resident said he awoke at 2 a.m. and left his door ajar while going to the restroom. At 8 a.m. when the roommates arose, they discovered the property was missing.

Campus visitor arrested on multiple charges

A 21-year-old Detroit man awaits a pre-trial hearing Jan. 15 in connection with charges related to a Nov. 16 incident at Couzens Hall. The man was arraigned Nov. 19 on charges of domestic violence, home invasion and interfering with an electronic communications device. He is accused of forcing his way into a room occupied by his ex-girlfriend around midnight. When she tried to call police, he reportedly kept her from using her telephone.

Student reports sexual assault

A U-M student told police she had been sexually assaulted in 2005 by a fellow student. The woman said she had attended an off-campus party Dec. 3 with a new acquaintance. After the party, they returned to his South Quadrangle room where she said they had nonconsensual sex. The investigation is continuing.

Hospital patient lodges complaint

A University Hospital patient reported to staff that she had been inappropriately touched during a medical procedure Nov. 29. The patient indicated that she had been assaulted by a nursing student, who was supervised at the time of the procedure. The investigation is continuing.
