Pair report robbery
Two male students told Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers they had been beaten and robbed as they walked home Aug. 3 from a local bar. The men said they had left a bar on Maynard Street and were walking near the cube sculpture in the Regent’s Plaza near Richard Kennedy Drive when they were approached by two unknown males. After a short verbal exchange, punches were thrown and a wallet was stolen, the men said. They told police they didn’t see any weapons and didn’t know which direction the suspects fled. Both victims were taken to the U-M Emergency Department (ED) for medical treatment.
One suspect is described as a black male, 6 feet with a medium build, in his early 20s, wearing shoulder-length dark hair, possibly in dreadlocks. The other suspect is a male of an unknown race, 5 feet 8 inches with a medium build, in his early 20s, wearing short, dark hair and sideburns.

Three assaults by strangers reported
DPS officers investigated three reports of aggravated assault by strangers on campus. Two individuals sought medical treatment as a result of injuries sustained in the incidents.
On July 6 a 21-year-old Chelsea man was found by a passerby passed out in bushes near the Law Quadrangle. The man told police that he was uncertain as to what had happened to him after he played volleyball and drank beer at a friend’s house near South State Street. The man was taken to the U-M ED for treatment of facial injuries.
On July 25 a 22-year-old Ann Arbor man reportedly approached a couple sitting near the fountain on Ingalls Mall around 4 a.m. and began verbally harassing them. When the 30-year-old male visitor stood up to confront the offender, a fight ensued. While the man called the police, he tried to restrain the offender, but the younger man left the scene. A DPS officer located the suspect on the Diag and placed him under arrest. The victim was taken to the U-M ED for treatment. Kyle Marcum pleaded not guilty at his arraignment July 26 on one count of misdemeanor aggravated assault. He was released upon posting bond.
Later the same morning, a delivery driver reportedly threatened another man with a screwdriver outside the Dental School loading dock. A 29-year-old gas worker from Adrian reported he was delivering gas and had placed a ladder over a hose along the ground while attempting to protect it. Soon a 48-year-old delivery driver from Detroit moved the ladder and drove his car over the hose. In an attempt to keep the driver from repeating his action, the younger man told police that he ran behind the car and kicked at it, resulting in a broken taillight. The car driver exited his vehicle with a screwdriver in his hand and walked toward the younger man. Police arrived on the scene and arrested the delivery driver for aggravated assault.
Baits residents report burglary
Two women from Maryland told police that their computers had been taken from their Baits Hall rooms while they were away for the weekend July 27-29. They said they forgot to close the windows before they left. Upon their return, they discovered the window screen was backwards and their two laptops and other computer equipment were missing.
Visitor arrested for domestic assault
A 20-year-old visitor from Flint was arrested July 12 at a Northwood Community Apartment after she allegedly assaulted her 21-year-old boyfriend. The man told police he had asked to use the apartment telephone, when his girlfriend swung it a few times at his face while they argued. He also said she had thrown several toys at him. The county prosecutor’s office declined to authorize arrest charges and the case has been closed.
Additional victim reports on social worker
A third former patient of a former social worker has told police about their earlier sexual encounters. Criminal sexual conduct charges against the social worker are pending investigations by multiple police agencies.
