Police officer assaulted during traffic stop
A Department of Public Safety (DPS) police officer reportedly was assaulted by a 23-year-old Whitaker woman April 10 during a traffic stop for an expired license plate. Christi Sullivan is scheduled for pre-trial May 30 on charges of assault and battery/resisting and obstructing a police officer, a two-year misdemeanor, and driving while license suspended.
After stopping her car at the police officer’s direction on Eisenhower Boulevard near the Wolverine Tower, Sullivan reportedly opened the trunk of her car, put something in the trunk and down her pants, resisted arrest and then struck the police officer in the face. The officer was able to get her under control before additional officers arrived.
Construction worker alleges assault
A construction worker at the Ross School of Business project reported April 18 that he had been struck with a piece of equipment by a coworker. He sought medical treatment on his own. DPS continues to investigate the incident.
Visitors assaulted at fashion show
A 25-year-old Flint man and his mother reportedly were assaulted April 1 while attending a fashion show at the Michigan Union. The prosecutor’s office authorized misdemeanor charges of aggravated assault and assault and battery against a U-M student and a campus visitor in connection with the incident. The two suspects are scheduled to appear in court May 22. The assault reportedly occurred after the male victim stepped on one of the suspect’s shoes. The mother received medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
West Quad burglary during move-out
During move-out April 27, two West Quad roommates observed an arm reach through the open room door and grab a purse off a nearby dresser. The purse with all its contents was recovered later in a nearby stairwell.
Two sexual assaults reported
Two fourth degree sexual assaults were reported to DPS in April. Investigation into each incident continues.
A student reported April 3 that a stranger had approached her the day before near the steps of the Michigan Union, then fondled and hugged her before walking up State Street. The student was not physically injured. The suspect is described as a black male, 40-50 years old, heavy-set with a clean-shaven, wrinkled face and short, black hair. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket and gray T-shirt.
On April 11, a staff person at the Central Power Plant reported that she had been fondled forcibly by a coworker more than a year ago. At the time she had not wanted to file charges.
No injuries in hospital couch fire
A 24-year-old Ann Arbor man did not sustain any injuries when he reportedly set two couches on fire at the University Hospital April 14. The fires were extinguished by hospital staff members.
