Two West Quad rooms burglarized

Students living in two West Quad rooms were victims of separate home invasions in March.

One resident told Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers that his room had been entered between 12:30 and 3:15 a.m. March 18 while he was visiting a hallmate. He had heard noise coming from his room but thought it was being made by his roommate, only later to discover that the roommate had not been home. The room window had been left ajar. The roommates reported clothing, personal items and medication were missing from the room and a dresser drawer had been damaged. DPS is continuing its investigation.

In a separate incident, two people were arrested March 29 near Division and Jefferson streets by the Ann Arbor Police (AAPD) and found to be in possession of two cell phones owned by West Quad residents. The AAPD officers had been responding to a tip that two suspicious people were tampering with parked cars and trying to gain access to nearby houses. Robert Aron-Deshaun Middleton, 26, of Ypsilanti, and Brittany Jahn, 19, of Chelsea, were arraigned March 30 on charges of second degree home invasion, a 15-year felony. When contacted about their missing property, the cell phone owners were unaware their room had been burglarized earlier in the evening.

Car stolen while owner exercises

A patron of the Ann Arbor YMCA reported to DPS March 20 that his keys and cell phone had been stolen while he was exercising, and his car, which he had parked in a nearby
U-M parking lot, also was missing. As of April 11, his 2005 Ford Taurus had not been reported recovered.

Patient threatens staff with butter knife

A 52-year-old University Hospital patient threatened staff March 20 with a butter knife if he wasn’t given food. A hospital security officer was able to grab the knife without incident. The patient was put in an isolation room for observation.
