Student’s purse snatched
A student’s purse was snatched Oct. 29 as she attempted to give a stranger directions, the victim told police. The student reported to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) that at about 10:30 p.m. she was walking near the intersection of Maynard and William streets when she was approached by an unknown man asking for directions. When she walked closer to the man to provide help, she said he grabbed her purse, ran to a waiting car and fled the area. The student did not seek medical attention.
The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s, approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall with scruffy facial hair. He last was seen wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt with a front zipper. The car is described as an older model, dark-colored, two-door, possibly a Ford Thunderbird. No description of the driver was provided.

Door shattered at senior center
A building custodian at the Turner Senior Resource Center heard glass shattering and may have stopped a burglary in progress Oct. 31. The custodian reported that at about 3:30 a.m. he heard the front door glass shatter, and upon investigating found an unknown man in the building. The man exited the building, climbed into a waiting car with a second man and left the scene. The custodian reported that his cell phone, which he had left on a table in the front lobby, was missing.
Weekend theft from student room
A resident of Mary Markley Residence Hall reported to DPS Oct. 16 that items had been removed from his locked room while he was away for the weekend. An iPod, a Sony XBox and five games were reported missing from the room. Police say there were no signs of forced entry.
Lamps, heaters missing from FXB
Staff at the Francois-Xavier Bagnoud Building filed multiple burglary reports with DPS in October. Two desk lamps and two space heaters were reported missing from locked cabinets, which had been pried open, or locked offices. DPS is investigating.
Attempted burglary might be tied to larceny
A 17-year-old male is out on bond awaiting a Washtenaw Circuit Court pretrial hearing on a charge of larceny from a person. Shihab Jackson of Ann Arbor was arrested Oct. 11 after a foot chase across Plymouth Road. Officers spotted him as they were canvassing the area in search of suspects in two incidents reported earlier the same night.
At about 7 p.m. a 29-year-old staff person reported he had been walking along Cram Place when five unknown men approached him and asked for money. After he removed his wallet from his pocket, one of the suspects, alleged to be Jackson, grabbed the wallet and fled.
Residents of a Northwood Community Apartment told police that an unknown man had attempted to enter their apartment through the open front door as they sat in their living room at about
8:30 p.m. When the apartment resident approached the door, he observed three young men running away.
The incidents remain under investigation in connection with the other suspects.
Assault on medical staff member alleged
A 52-year-old patient at the Comprehensive Cancer Center allegedly fondled a staff person who was attempting to take the man’s blood pressure, according to an Oct. 2 police report. The medical professional told police that as she applied the blood pressure cuff to her patient, he fondled her breasts and made inappropriate comments. DPS has submitted the results of the investigation to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.
