Unarmed robbery near Michigan Union
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a report of an unarmed robbery of three men near the Michigan Union around 3 a.m. July 14. DPS is looking for five black males in their early to mid-20s, 6 feet tall and 220-250 pounds. They last were seen wearing dark-colored shirts; two had on shiny athletic shorts with stripes and the other three were wearing dark-colored jeans.
The three victims reportedly were leaving work at a food vendor in the Union when they were approached by the five suspects who demanded “everything they got.” Two victims fled after dropping a backpack. The third was physically assaulted and his backpack was taken. He refused medical treatment at the scene.
The suspects fled on foot toward the Diag. The two backpacks later were recovered near the President’s Residence. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact DPS at 763-1131 or call the Anonymous Tipline at (800 )863-1355.
Staffer OK after push from moving truck
A 37-year-old University employee sustained cuts and bruises but did not need medical attention after she reportedly was pushed June 28 from a moving pick-up truck in a campus parking lot. The truck, reportedly driven at the time by the employee’s 35-year-old housemate, fled the scene in lot M26 on East Medical Center Drive. Arrest charges for domestic assault and driving while license suspended have been authorized for the driver.
TV, computers, money taken in burglaries
An expensive television, computers, equipment and money were reported stolen during three separate campus burglaries in June. DPS has no suspects at this time connected with the incidents. A plasma TV, computer and two monitors were reported stolen from the Trotter House between June 2 and 5. Building doors and windows were found open and no signs of forced entry were visible.
On June 18 Ann Arbor Summer Festival staff reported $279 was missing from a petty cash drawer in an office desk at the Power Center. No signs of forced entry were visible.
A computer and monitor, three laptop computers and a cell phone were reported missing June 19 from a 5th floor office area in the LSA Building. Cabinets in the office area reportedly had been searched during the incident.
Sexual assault reported at Arbor Heights
A 15-year-old Arbor Heights resident reported to police June 28 that she had consensual sex with a 17-year-old resident several times earlier in the month. Since she is underage, she legally cannot give consent, so the report is being investigated as a criminal sexual conduct offense. The older resident has not been seen since he escaped the residence June 15. Arbor Heights is a state residential facility for juveniles and part of the state’s juvenile correction system. Although it is not a University building, it is on U-M property.
