Patient reports inappropriate touching
A University Hospital patient reported July 25 that a hospital staff member fondled her while preparing her for transport. The case was referred to hospital management because the patient did not want to pursue criminal sexual conduct charges.
Unauthorized use of U-M vehicle investigated
A graduate student may face charges of unlawful driving of a motor vehicle without intent to steal after returning a damaged U-M rental vehicle July 8. The student was authorized to rent the vehicle for University business, but the damage was sustained in an accident several hundred miles from the approved locale. The criminal penalty for this type of motor vehicle theft is two years in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,500.
Six vehicles damaged, youth detained
A 16-year-old Ann Arbor boy was taken to the Washtenaw County Juvenile Detention Center July 9 in connection with damage to vehicles parked in the Thayer Street parking structure. A Department of Public Safety police officer heard the sound of breaking glass during a routine patrol and found the youth striking a cement column in the structure with a brick. Upon investigation, six vehicles were found damaged with broken windshields, dents and scratches. Three petitions were authorized for the youth, including miscellaneous destruction of property, minor in possession of alcohol, and resisting and obstructing a police officer. The boy remains in the detention center pending adjudication in juvenile court.
