Man arrested for check forgery
Tierra Webster, 22, of Ypsilanti, was arrested Feb. 5 after he tried to cash a stolen check at the Comerica Bank in the Wolverine Tower building. Webster remains in the Washtenaw County Jail awaiting his pre-trial conference on five charges: uttering and publishing, a 14-year felony; forgery, a 14-year felony; and three charges of financial transaction device fraud, a four-year felony. Webster is not affiliated with the University.
Four assaults reported
A University Hospital (UH) employee reported Feb. 2 that she had been forcibly fondled by another UH staff member. Information from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigation has been submitted to the county prosecutor’s office for review.
On Feb. 4, a resident of Mary Markley residence hall reported that she had been sexually assaulted in January by an acquaintance. She did not want to press charges, and the case has been closed.
A student sought medical treatment Feb. 11 after he reportedly was punched in the face several times during a pick-up basketball game at the Central Campus Recreation Building. No one could identify the suspect for police.
A U-M van was struck by paintballs fired from a window of Couzens residence hall Feb. 18. No one was injured in the incident, and the van was not damaged. DPS has interviewed a potential suspect and continues to investigate the incident.
Two students burglarized
A resident of Mosher-Jordan residence hall discovered his wallet was missing Feb. 2 shortly after a stranger left his room around 2:45 p.m. The suspect is described as a Black male with dark complexion in his mid-20s. He is 6 feet tall, approximately 200 pounds with a muscular build, and had a goatee. He was last seen wearing a black scull cap and a black leather jacket. Anyone with information about this incident or suspect is asked to call DPS at (734) 763-3434.
A resident of Alice Lloyd residence hall discovered his debit card was missing from his wallet Feb. 14. It was used at local stores later that afternoon. DPS continues to investigate this incident.
Another LCD projector stolen
A $6,000 liquid crystal display (LCD) projector was reported stolen Feb. 27 from a locked room in the Dennison Building. Glass panes on the room door had been broken.
A reward of up to $10,000 continues to be available from U-M and Washtenaw Community College for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for recent LCD projector thefts. Papers on kiosk burned
A half dozen young males were observed in the early morning of Feb. 27 setting fire to papers posted on an outdoor kiosk on the east side of the Student Activities Building. The responding police officer put out the fire, which did not cause any damage to the kiosk. The youths were not found during a search of the area.
Two stolen vehicles recovered
A 2002 Yamaha moped was returned to its owner after it was found Feb. 17 by the Jackson County Sheriff Department in Brooklyn, Mich. The moped, which is owned by a U-M staff member, was last seen in the Catherine Street parking structure in early December.
A U-M student’s 1998 Mercury Mountaineer, which was reported stolen Dec. 6 from the Hill Street parking structure, was recovered Feb. 22. The vehicle was found in the Forest Street parking structure after it had been left unattended for several weeks. It was found with a broken window.
