DPS seeks witnesses
Investigators in the Department of Public Safety (DPS) would like to talk with any witnesses or anyone who may have stopped to help an 18-year-old female who reported Oct. 5 that she had been pushed from behind by an unknown person. DPS issued a crime alert later that day to notify the community about the reported assault and battery in the South State Street or Oakland Avenue area.

Female grabbed but not injured
A female staff member reported that she was grabbed and inappropriately touched by two people near the corner of South University and East University avenues early Sept. 19. The victim was walking from Hatcher Graduate Library when the sexual assault occurred. She was not injured during the incident.
Visitor arrested for assaulting police officer
Terrell Johnson, 20, of Ypsilanti, is scheduled for a pre-trial conference Nov. 5 on a felony charge of resisting and obstructing a police officer. He was arrested Sept. 6 after assaulting a DPS officer during skirmishes that erupted outside the Michigan Union. Johnson faces two years in jail and/or a $2,000 fine for the felony charge. Additionally, he was charged with minor in possession of alcohol. Johnson posted bond of 10 percent of $10,000 at his arraignment.
Horseplay results in minor injury
A University Hospital employee received a minor injury from a knife Sept. 17 during a playful scuffle. The incident was investigated as an aggravated assault because it involved an injury from a weapon. DPS has concluded that no crime was committed and turned the case over for administrative review.
Three students found in Perry
Three students were arrested Sept. 10 as they climbed out of a window at the Perry Building at 2 a.m. DPS had received a call that people had entered the building through the window. The three students were released pending authorization from the prosecutor’s office.
Two student rooms robbed
Two students filed reports with DPS that items had been removed from their rooms. A resident of Betsey Barbour Hall reported Sept. 13 that her purse had been removed from her room after she had left her door open. Later she received a call from staff at a local restaurant who told her they had her purse.
An East Quadrangle resident reported to DPS that a guitar had been removed from her room Sept. 16 after her door had been propped open.
Two vehicles reported stolen, found
A golf cart from the U-M Golf Course was reported to be parked at a house on East University. DPS officers located the cart and discovered it had been removed from the football stadium the previous day. A staff member reported to DPS Sept. 23 that his department vehicle had been stolen from lot M-19. It was discovered later that day in the same lot with no signs of damage.
Ning Ma remanded to jail
Ning Ma, the former graduate student who is charged with 23 counts of computer crimes, was remanded to jail Sept. 29 on $1 million bond. His next hearing date is Nov. 3.
