Reward offered
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the U-M Credit Union are offering a reward of up to $500 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of individuals responsible for the attempted theft March 2 of the automated teller machine (ATM) outside the Kresge Business Administration Library at the Business School. Anyone with information should contact DPS at (734) 763-1131 or the University’s anonymous tip line at (800) 863-1355.
DPS investigates carport vandalism
DPS officers are investigating several suspects in connection with a rash of car vandalism Feb. 21 in the Church Street parking structure. Six reports of damage to vehicles, such as broken windows, slashed tires and stolen property, were filed within a short time span. DPS also is working with other local police agencies that have received similar reports in recent weeks.
Two assaults reported
Two students filed reports with DPS in February for criminal sexual assaults by acquaintances. The incident in the Mosher-Jordan residence hall reportedly occurred in the fall semester, while the event in West Quad reportedly took place Feb. 14.
Pair of burglaries in residence halls
Money was reported stolen Feb. 19 from a locked resident’s room in Baits House, and a sweatshirt reportedly was taken Feb. 17 from a locked custodian’s closet in South Quad. DPS continues to investigate the incidents.
Two computers recovered
Two computers, reportedly stolen from the Medical Campus last year, were recovered Feb. 13 and 14 after police found them in Ypsilanti. The total value of the computers is $5,200.
Media Union thief enters plea
A 17-year-old Ann Arbor man remains in jail after pleading guilty to larceny and trespass charges in connection with three thefts Nov. 21 at the Media Union. Christopher Cicchelli also had been charged with larceny from the Central Campus Recreation Building Feb. 25 after he reportedly was observed searching through clothes in a locker room. He will be sentenced in late March.
In other activity …
An arson report was filed Feb. 20 after a staff member discovered charring in a Chrysler Center men’s restroom. A toilet paper roll had been burned, resulting in damage to the wall and accessories.
A University Hospital patient filed a report of a motor vehicle theft Feb. 26. Upon investigation, officers determined the incident was part of a family dispute and submitted the case to the police agency with jurisdiction for the patient’s residence.
A staff member of the Office Depot on West Eisenhower notified DPS Feb. 16 that the store had refused a customer’s request to copy a U-M parking permit. The store employee also notified other copy stores in the area of the fraudulent request.
