During the 1963-64 school year, serious moods created by the Vietnam conflict and the assassination of President Kennedy were momentarily lifted as the Cazzie Russell-led men's basketball team captured a Big Ten Championship in March, sparking excitement over a new sport era on the Ann Arbor campus.
