Parking area adjacent to Yost will require Blue permit
By Rebecca A. Doyle
Beginning Nov. 1, drivers who have been parking their vehicles in the lot behind Canham Natatorium, Weidenbach Hall, Yost Arena, Schembechler Hall and the Track and Tennis Building will need to have a Blue University parking permit posted in their cars or have change on hand for new two-hour meters.
The lot has approximately 830 spaces, says Susan Kirkpatrick, director of Plant Operations planning. Parking in that area had not been regulated, she says. Use of the lot has grown so much that those who worked or had business in the area were no longer able to find a place to park. “What we saw happening,” Kirkpatrick says, “is greater and greater use of the lot by those who had nothing to do with the Athletic Department or events. There was no place left for athletic-associated parking.” The change to Blue permit and visitor metered parking is designed to meet the parking needs of the Athletic Department as well as provide additional Blue parking, she adds.
Of the 830 spaces, approximately 64 will be converted to two-hour visitor metered parking. The remainder will require the Blue parking sticker 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Reduced-rate and free parking options for those used to parking in the athletic parking area follow.
