October Visiting Writers series begins Saturday
Author Stuart Dybeck and poets Alice Fulton, a U-M English professor, and Kathleen Halme, a U-M alumna, will present their works during the University’s October Visiting Writers Series.
Sponsored by the Department of English and Borders Books and Music, the series features fiction and poetry readings by distinguished writers throughout the academic year. Most readings are free to the public.
Dybeck, a Guggenheim Fellow and professor of English at Western Michigan University, will read his fiction at 5 p.m. Thurs. (Oct. 3) at Rackham Amphitheater. He has written two collections of short stories, The Coast of Chicago and Childhood and Other Neighborhoods, and a collection of poems, Brass Knuckles.
Fulton, who has won MacArthur and Guggenheim fellowships for her work, will give a poetry reading at 5 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Rackham Amphitheater. She is author of four books of poetry, including Sensual Math, Powers of Congress, Palladium and Dance Script With Electric Ballerina.
Halme, who has a master’s degree in creative writing from the U-M and now teaches at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, will read her poetry at 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at Rackham Amphitheater. Her first full-length book of poetry, Every Substance Clothed, was published last year.
