A poster for display in offices is available to help spread the word about violence against women. It contains emergency phone numbers, as well as 24-crisis lines for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault: Domestic Violence Project/SAFE House, 995-5444; Assault Crisis Center, 483-7273, and Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC), 936-3333. The poster is distributed by the Mayor’s Task Force on Increasing Safety for Women and the U-M Task Force on Violence Against Women on Campus. Concerned about nighttime safety on campus? The following services are available to all faculty, staff and students.
ð Department of Public Safety (DPS) Escort Service, for emergency use only; available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call 763-1131 and give the dispatcher your name, location, destination and reason for calling.
ð NorthWalk and SafeWalk are available seven nights a week during fall and winter terms only. There is no service during term breaks or recesses. They are student-run volunteer organizations that provide an alternative to walking alone at night, co-sponsored by DPS and the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC). The two-student teams (at least one is female) are trained and equipped with two-way radios. NorthWalk teams will accompany you to your destination if it is within a 20-minute radius of Bursley Hall. On Central Campus, SafeWalk students will accompany you to destinations within a 20-minute radius of the Diag.
SafeWalk, 936-1000, is headquartered at the Shapiro Undergraduate Library. Hours are 8 p.m.-2:30 a.m. Sunday-Thursday and 8-11:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
NorthWalk, 763-WALK, works out of Bursley Hall during the same hours as SafeWalk.

ð Central Campus Nite Owl Bus Service is available 7 p.m.-2 p.m. seven days a week during fall and winter terms only. Routes originate from the Shapiro Undergraduate Library. Call 764-3427.
ð Night Ride is a late-night, shared-ride, fixed fee ($2) taxi service funded and organized by the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority and operated by Yellow Cab. The ride operates only within Ann Arbor city limits. You need not wait outside for the cab. Hours: 11 p.m.-6 a.m., seven days a week. Call 663-3888.
More than 90 emergency phones housed in blue-light-topped kiosks are strategically located on the Central, North, Medical and South (including Wolverine Tower) campuses. The phones automatically connect you with the DPS Communications Center. Officers are dispatched to your location even if you are unable to speak. Copies of maps showing the locations of the phones are available from DPS.
