New Dearborn Corporate Center houses continuing, community education programs

Conference participants can eat and socialize in the Skylight Atrium at U-M-Dearborn’s new Center for Corporate and Professional Development (CCPD). The 17,000-square-foot Center is located on the north edg e of campus on Monteith Boulevard and houses most of Dearborn’s non-degree/continuing education programs. The Center hopes to be a regional provider of conferences, seminars and workshops to business and industry, civic and trade groups, educational and cultural institutions, government agencies, and professional associations.
The CCPD offers five non-degree credit program areas: computer applications/programming and administration, management/business programs, contemporary workplace issues, business and technical communication skills, and courses for teachers and K-1 2 students. Seven classrooms and three computer laboratories are available for the Center’s courses.
In addition to the Dearborn location, the CCPD offers other program location options. The Downriver Center for Corporate and Professional Development in Southgate is a newly-renovated 4,000-square-foot facility that has two classrooms, a computer laboratory and a conference room. CCPD staff will deliver courses where customers are located.
Chancellor James Renick says the CCPD optimizes University resources to meet a growing demand for continuing education. “Our core activity will always be credit course work, but the explosive growth in non-credit programming and the flexibility of this part of the University will allow us to make a match that will provide significant growth potential for the campus.”
