Native American Month activities continue

Commemoration of Native American Month continues today (Nov. 9) with a panel discussion on “Native Americans in Journalism” at 7 p.m. in the Kuenzel Room, Michigan Union.

Speakers are Paul DeMain, Oneida, editor of Indian Country and president of the Native American Journalists Association; Miles Morrisseau, Metis, editor of Native Beat; and Bud White Eye, Delaware, associate producer for CBC Radio, Windsor.

Film series, Thunderheart, 8 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 11), East Quadrangle.

Film series, Pow Wow Highway, 7 p.m. Nov. 18, South Quadrangle.

Native American Storytelling, 7 p.m. Nov. 19, Mary Markley.

Teaching Circles, 7 p.m. Nov. 24. Guest speakers are George Martin, Ojibwe, and Sydney Martin, Pottawatomi. R.S.V.P. to Melissa Lopez, 936-1055.

Native American Month Closing Reception, 7 p.m. Nov. 30, Pendleton Room, Michigan Union. Guest speaker: Arvol Looking Horse, Lakota, Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe.

Native American Month activities are sponsored by a number of U-M units and student organizations, including the Office of Minority Affairs; the Office of the Vice Provost for Minority Affairs Visiting Scholars Program; the departments of anthropology, communication and linguistics; the Program in American Culture; the Women’s Studies Program; Minority Student Services; the Native American Students Association; the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs; Abeng; Ambatana; C.A.M.M.; East Quad Forum for Understanding; Housing Special Programs; M.M.A.C.; Mystic; and S.I.S.T.E.R.
