This week in history (96 years ago)

“The field hospital was finally established at Bethincourt…Some of us brought wounded from the trenches to the hospital and some carried them on back to Fromersville where the distributing hospital was located. Everyone was under shell fire at some time, but all behaved like veterans.” — Oct. 1, 1918, entry to daily log, kept by Gus Reynolds and Howard D. “Tubber” Tubbs, on behalf of the 36-member U.S. Army Ambulance Corps Section 90. The unit was stationed in France during World War I and made up mostly of U-M undergraduates.
