Motivational speaker Russell-McCloud to keynote People of Color Conference
The 14th annual People of Color Career Conference is scheduled for March 8. The day-long conference titled “Building and Creating Opportunities for Growth” features workshops on everything from gender communication to crime prevention techniques, a keynote presentation by motivational speaker Patricia Russell-McCloud and a luncheon.
Reservations must be received by Fri. (Feb. 9). Cost for the conference and lunch is $30 for U-M affiliates and $50 for non-affiliates. Those who wish to attend the conference only will pay $15 if affiliated with the U-M and $35 if not affiliated.
Russell-McCloud has been a teacher, college professor and a lawyer with the Federal Communications Commission. Now she addresses audiences around the world about the values of education, multiculturalism, child advocacy and effective leadership.
“I am an urgent speaker with an urgent message,” she says. “I’m not going to let you sleep through my presentation, and if I’ve done my job, you won’t sleep when you go home, either.”
Participants in the 50 workshop sessions will learn about juggling time and family, breaking the glass ceiling, rites of passage for African American youth, skills that pay bills, minority health care issues, Tai Chi, sexual harassment and even the Internet.
During the day, participants may browse through an ethnic arts and crafts marketplace in the Modern Languages Building.
