Students, faculty, alumni and friends gave more than $4.2 million to support what they love about U-M during the Giving Blueday 24-hour day of giving.
Throughout the day March 16, donors contributed gifts of all sizes to causes of their choice in support of U-M’s Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses and the health system.
More than 125 student organizations such as 1st Generation Engineers, UM-Dearborn’s Criminology and Criminal Justice Collective, and UM-Flint’s Student Government raised funds for their causes.
Flywheel Women’s Club Ultimate Frisbee was the student organization that received the most donors through the Giving Blueday website.
“Giving Blueday speaks to the power of the community,” said Vice President for Development Tom Baird. “Each year, the global Michigan community generously supports the causes they care about, from research initiatives to student organizations. Their generosity helps enhance U-M’s mission to serve the public good.”
LSA was the unit that received the most donors through the Giving Blueday website.
This year, 22 different challenges, such as the Found in the Wild photo challenge and Sharing is Caring social media challenge, encouraged people to make donations.
Donors who posted about Giving Blueday on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram had a chance to increase their donation by receiving a match. Student organizations and causes such as Wolverine Support Network, among others, won giving challenges throughout the day.
On Giving Blueday 2021, more than 10,000 donors supported the university in just 24 hours, raising more than $4.6 million.
