The university is testing the Concur mobile app this fall for managing travel expenses on the go.
U-M Procurement Services is leading the pilot, which takes place over the next two months.
Faculty and staff in the test program will snap pictures of receipts, record car mileage and upload the details of their travel for reconciliation from their smartphones while still on the road.
The effort resulted from faculty and staff feedback received by the Administrative Services Transformation project team last winter while planning for the implementation of the U-M Shared Services Center.
The engagement process surfaced concerns over the usability of the Concur interface, which led the team to pursue system modifications to allow Concur’s mobile app to be tested on U-M’s financial system.
Project leaders say they want the pilot group participants to evaluate the app’s ease of use and its value toward simplifying travel expense reporting. Concur also plans to release a friendlier Web interface this winter.
If the pilot is successful, university leaders say they’ll make the mobile app available to all faculty and staff early in 2015. Both iPhone and Android versions are available.
