In 1866, 25 years after the move to Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan became the largest university in the country, with 1,205 enrolled students. In 1867, enrollment reached 1,255 students. The university then was comprised of the Medicine Department, 525 students; the Law Department, 395; and the Literary Department, 335. There were 33 faculty.
