Michigan Radio’s most successful fund drive came to a halt at 8 p.m. April 10, with a total of 2,240 area listeners calling in pledges. The station stopped the drive when the $155,000 goal was reached.

Over the course of the seven-day campaign, $158,000 was pledged by listeners. An additional $11,500 will be provided by corporations matching employee contributions. Another $4,500 was generated by area businesses participating in the Challenge Grant program. In the weeks preceding the drive, current members mailed in $39,000 in contributions to renew their membership. All told, $213,000 was raised.

“We are extremely grateful for this outpouring of support, especially from new members, and we pledge to continue to work to make this the best public radio station in the country,” says Donovan Reynolds, director of broadcasting.

Area firms participating in the Challenge Grant program include Café Zola, the Center for Behavior and Medicine, Cimulus Automotive Systems, Frames Unlimited, Michigan Live, Midwestern Guides, Picom Insurance, the Philip and Kathy Power Family Foundation and Schuler Books and Music.
