Five Medical Center technology groups have combined their efforts and become a single organization. Included in the new Medical Center Information Technology group are the former information technology providers of U-M Hospitals Information & Networking Services; Information, Technology & Networking Office of the Health Sciences; Medical School Information Systems; Patient Care Information Systems; and Clinical Information Systems.

Interim chief information officer Mike McGill will be responsible for unifying information technology services, streamlining efforts and combining similar activities within the Medical Center. The ultimate goal is to provide increased levels of customer service.

To that end, a management team has been created to provide input on the new organizational structure.

The structure is meant to be flexible, to allow the new organization to “test the waters” and make adjustments as needed. A more permanent organizational structure will be implemented within three to six months.
