McNamara is interim director of art museum

Carole McNamara, collections manager, has been named interim director of the Museum of Art, effective May 1.
McNamara joined the Museum in 1978 as registrar and since then has participated in every facet of Museum life, overseeing the permanent collection and embarking on numerous curatorial adventures.
“Carole McNamara brings to the interim directorship a passionate love of works of art and a compelling vision for creative ways to share their delights with a range of audiences,” says outgoing director William Hennessey.
“Over her many years at the Museum, she has earned the confidence of the staff and the Executive Committee, and is widely respected for her professionalism and clear thinking. There could be no better choice to lead the Museum of Art through the coming months of transition.”
Hennessey will become the director of the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Va.
A search committee for a new director—including Museum staff, history of art scholars and other members of the University community—has been formed under the leadership of Paul Boylan, dean of the School of Music and vice provost for the arts.
Members are: Annette LeCuyer, associate professor of architecture; Sharon Patton, director, Center for Afroamerican and African Studies, and associate professor of history of art; Margaret Root, chair, Department of History of Art and professor of classical and Near Eastern art and of archaeology; Allen Samuels, dean, School of Art and Design; John Chamberlin, professor of political science and of public policy; Marshall Wu, senior curator of Asian art; and Fran Wylie, president, Friends of the Museum.
